Refreshments are provided, and students are be able to ask questions during or after each presentation.

All presentations take place in the New Law School, either in the Law Foyer, Law Lounge or a Lecture Theatre.

Clerkship Networking Evening

The Clerkship Networking Evening launches the SULS Careers Guide. The event offers students an opportunity to meet representatives from major firms in advance of applications for Summer Clerkships. Students can ask questions of partners, associates and Human Resources representatives from each firm. The event is also be a useful way for students to work on their networking skills in an atmosphere similar to that of many clerkship recruitment events.

Registration is essential for this event – look out for information in the weeks leading up to the event in the SULS Weekly and on social media.

Practice Group Presentations

SULS, in partnership with firms, hosts a series of practice group presentations on campus throughout the year. These presentations aim to provide students with a better understanding of the work done in some of the practice areas of mid-tier and top-tier law firms.

Refreshments are provided during the presentations.

Skills Workshops

SULS hosts workshops delivered by major law firms on skills such as interviewing, networking and writing a CV and cover letters.

Tipstaves and Associates Panel

Each year SULS hosts a Tipstaves and Associates Panel early in Semester 1. This event includes a number of current and former Tipstaves and Associates from the High Court, Federal Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. The panellists share their experiences about the application process, what to expect, and what life is like in these roles.

Students who are interested in pursuing this option after they graduate are encouraged to attend and ask questions at this informal, interactive event. Refreshments are provided.

International Careers Seminars

Immigration Seminar: Pathways to a Future in Australia

In Semester 2, SULS traditionally hosts a presentation on immigration. Specifically, the seminar aims to inform international students about the recent changes to the Migration Act with respect to Skilled Workers, which affect those planning to work in Australia after graduation.

Students in all year groups are encouraged to attend, in order to learn about different pathways and opportunities to practising and living in Australia. It is important for international students to starting thinking about these issues early in their degrees. The presentation will be practical and applicable to students, with a chance to ask questions to our speakers.

International Students’ Careers Forum

SULS runs a Careers Forum aimed at educating and informing international students about career opportunities available to them. SULS encourages all international students to apply for Clerkships and other opportunities during their time at Sydney Law School, and this Forum will provide students with tips and insights into doing just that.

The three speakers – all former Sydney Law graduates and international students – discuss their experiences applying for Clerkships and other positions including Research Assistants and Paralegals; interviewing tips; working as a clerk; applying for Graduate positions, and more!

Other Careers Forums

SULS hosts other careers presentations throughout the year, including information sessions on practical legal training requirements.
